Table is a collective of 300+ designers, students and friends with roots in industrial design working to better equip, support and represent diverse perspectives in design.

A seat at the table has long been a symbol for the power of inclusion yet also, exclusion. As industrial designers, we are deconstructing the table and rebuilding it to be the symbol we hope for the future.

Since 2022, Table has led programming independently and in collaboration with educational and design organizations. With overwhelming positive feedback, each event reaffirms our commitment to fostering a community where emerging designers can build connections and explore meaningful inquiries in design and beyond.

We first met while studying industrial design and though our practices now span very different disciplines, we continue to recognize how our approaches are shaped by that shared education. The discipline and industrial design programs are evolving beyond its traditional definition.

Born out of both frustration and a desire for creative community, Table is a response to the gap between education and industry in industrial design.

In 2020, conversations about bias in design were coming to the forefront. As women of colour in design, our own experiences reflected this bias, and we felt a responsibility to help bridge that gap.

This journey has been one of constant learning, as we continue to navigate the challenge of living our values as a collective in each decision we make.

To each of you who have supported us along the way, we are so grateful to have you at our table. If you ever have an idea for how we might work together please reach out.

With gratitude,
